What is one of your favorite college memories?
Graduation day was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. I’ve never felt the same sense of accomplishment as I did that day. There is always a wide range of emotions for everyone and that energy also creates a feeling that gives rise to goose bumps. Yet, the thing that stood out the most was when my name was called. I approached Dean Gerrity and turned my head to the all the people on Franklin Field. As I reached out my hand, one of the dignitaries on stage ( Dr. London ) said, “Way to go Donna!” As I turned my head to face him, my grad cap fell off my head at the same time my hand was shaking Dean Gerrity’s hand. It was all caught on the big screen. I have the pictures. It was the perfect ending to an amazing four years. Hats off to Dean Gerrity!
Any interesting roommate stories you’d like to share – good or bad?
At my sister’s dorm during Halloween. Her roomie meticulously decorated the door to included popcorn on a string. After my sister and I returned from a party, my sister proceeded to eat every piece of popcorn off of the door. Her roomie was trying frantically to save the the decorations, but to no avail. It was hilarious. (at the time)
What excited you about working at My College Roomie?
I’ve always been drawn to innovative tech companies. My College Roomie is powerfully changing the dynamics of roommate matching for colleges and universities in a meaningful way and that positively impacts the student experience, retention, and persistence. My College Roomie will do for student matching what learning management systems did for content. The platform provides amazing efficiencies to the matching process, lifting administrative burdens off of the staff. More importantly, it will increase the likelihood having a great roommate!
Tell us a bit about your work philosophies.
Great question! I hold the belief that curiosity, empathy, and compassion for others, along with integrity are the cornerstones of personal and business success. In my coaching and sales work, my focus is on helping people to find their leadership stake in their work and to enhance their capacity for inspiring and courageous action for the changes they want to make for their organizations. For me, I love to see people stepping into their greatness.
How about a fun fact that not many people know about you?
I’m an introvert. NO one believes it. And I’m very driven by music and I love to dance.
What do you do for fun? Any hobbies?
Being on the beach is very restorative for me and when given a choice it’s what I love to do the most. In my spare time, I love tennis, golf, and chilling out with my friends/family. As for my volunteer efforts, over the past few years, I’ve dedicated an enormous amout of time and money in animal rescue, mostly cats. It’s both a rewarding and heartbreaking endeavor.
